My Land Is So Green
/

Ireland is the land of forty shades of green. However, this song speaks to the green of naivety of the people to the hypocrisy of both church and state.

A church which colluded with a government to sweep scandals under the carpet. A country where a 14 year old died giving birth in a field rather than facing the shame of her family and priest.

My land is naive, too scared of the devil holier than thou with eyes up to heaven

The politicians who rule scheme to make themselves rich. Brown envelopes stuffed with cash became part of the uniform of government. The two main parties are shades of a shadow. It doesn’t matter which are in power. They’re on the make at the expense of the people.

My land is too full of incurable scheming

The promises given are nothing but dreaming

We all love a rogue we’ll make him our leader

And every four years it’s right back to zero
